You can take part in the “Sesquicentennial Campaign for Scholarships” in multiple ways. If you have questions about giving to Tougaloo College, please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at 601-977-7871.
Annual gifts are unrestricted and provide flexibility for Tougaloo to address its top priorities such as student scholarships. These gifts help to sustain and grow opportunities for our students inside the classroom and beyond. Annual gifts make a difference. A gift of any amount can help make a difference for students.
Gifts to the general scholarship fund are pooled with other gifts to provide financial assistance for deserving students. A gift of any amount can help make a difference for students.
Annual unrestricted gifts are used to help areas of the college where the need or the opportunity is the greatest, such as scholarships. Understanding that unrestricted gifts are a very powerful form of private support and are important to Tougaloo’s future, President Beverly W. Hogan has committed $100,000 to increase the college’s unrestricted coffers and is challenging alumni and friends to join her in achieving our goal to provide scholarship support for deserving students who desire a Tougaloo education and continue to populate our state and nation with leaders prepared to be the influencers of change in their communities. A gift of any amount can help make a difference for students.
Named annual scholarships are designed to encourage scholarship support at annual levels. Donors wishing to establish a named annual scholarship with specified award criteria must pledge an annual gift of $5,000 for a three-year period. The gift may be awarded for as many years as the funds are donated. During that time, the funds will go directly to aiding a student with demonstrated financial need. The name associated with this fund will remain with the fund until such time as the fund is depleted or discontinued.
There are other endowed scholarship funds at Tougaloo to which you can contribute that will benefit students. Please see our list of endowed scholarships in the section labeled “Existing Scholarships” on the giving page. A gift of any amount to anyone of these funds can help make a difference for students.
Endowed scholarship gifts create a lasting impact on what matters most to you and your philanthropic goals. Endowed scholarships provide funds to students to help supplement the cost of their education. These scholarships vary based on requirements, award amount, and number of awards. A gift of $50,000, paid in full or pledged over a period of time, not exceeding five years, will fully endow a scholarship. When a donor establishes an endowed scholarship fund, the gift amount is retained in perpetuity and cannot be spent; the revenue from the endowed scholarship fund provides annual awards to students on a continual basis after one year of establishment.
As a part of Tougaloo’s 150th anniversary celebration, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students and friends are invited to help build the college’s future by honoring the past and support scholarships for deserving students. Now we have an opportunity to turn that legacy into a permanent reminder of our connection to the College by purchasing a legacy paver on the Sesquicentennial Plaza, the walkway that stretches between the Mansion and historic Woodworth Chapel and connects to the Woodworth Chapel Plaza.
